The flat is next to a great bar - L'Auberge du Prorel. It has Belgian beer on tap, rickety old wooden furniture, pool and table football, regular live music (mostly English bands) and the barstaff are mainly Scandinavian - an excellent combination. In the winter there is normally a lively 'happy hour' with reduced priced drinks from 5pm until 6pm. It has recently been sold with plans to upgrade and refurbish so will possibly be closed winter 2023.
The Italian border is only 15 minutes away (and Briancon has been part of Italy several times in its history) so the food available is mainly French and Italian - but there are also Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants. The medieval old town has dozens of restaurants & bars and there are more in the lower town on Rue Central. The Briancon Casino opposite has a good restaurant but you need to take Passport ID if you want to go into the gambling part.
There are street maps in the apartment for you to use and maps of the surrounding area.
There are 2 large hypermarkets within a couple of minutes drive - Geant Casino (by the roundabout towards Turin/Grenoble) and Carrefour Hyper (to the south of the town direction of Gap - open 0830 x 2000 Monday to Saturday and 0830 x 1230 Sunday).
Within about 5 minutes walking distance are a Carrefour City and a LeClerc supermarket (open 0700 x 2200 Monday to Saturday 0900 x 1300 Sunday).
On Wednesday and Sunday mornings there is a local street market (Avenue du 159 E Ria and Rue Central) with plenty of very cheap but excellent locally grown produce. The Italian farmers also come over the border with their cheeses, wines and olives.
There are also several local 'boulangeries' with fresh bread made in wood fired ovens. We reckon the one in Place de Europe is the best.
